The smart answer for every terrain

When land has a physically challenging terrain where traditional seeding methods can’t be used, that’s when Challenger Construction’s Hydroseeding and Hydromulching abilities come into play. As one of the largest and most diverse hydroseeding companies in the North America, Challenger Construction provides specialized equipment that is able to revegetate even the most difficult sites with minimal impact to the land. The uniformity of the product and superior performance make it the best method on most construction and revegetation projects.

Hydroseeding Specifics

Hydroseeding is a seeding process in which seed and hydromulch are mixed into a slurry and applied to an area with water. It usually consists of a blend of seed, fertilizer, mulch, and a tackifing agent that is mixed with water to be sprayed from a specialized machine. This slurry becomes the seedbed and aids in the germination of the desired vegetation. The mulch not only aids in the delivery of the seed, but also helps retain moisture and protect the seedlings during the germination period.

The benefits of hydroseeding are many including efficiency of placement, difficult terrain applications, less equipment to operate vs. traditional methods, and reduced labor. It can be very effective for hillsides, inaccessible terrain, and sloping lawns to help with erosion control and quick planting. Hydroseeding will typically cost less than planting with sod, but more than broadcast seeding. Vegetation results are often quicker with high germination rates producing grass growth earlier than drilled or broadcasted applications.

Challenger is one of the few companies in North America that are professionally certified in Hydroseeding. When it comes to experience and know how, few come close to what we have to offer as an erosion control contractor.

Hydroseeding Frequently Asked Questions

  • What kind of grass can you Hydroseed?

There is almost no limit to what we can Hydroseed. For most commercial and residential applications, we seed Fescue, Bluegrass, K31, Buffalo Grass, Native, Wildflowers, Annual and Perennial Ryegrass, Bermuda, and other exotic seed blends.

  • When should I water my new lawn?

The best time to water is when the temperatures are at their lowest during the day. This keeps the evaporation at a minimum and you keep more water on your soil. Ideally, watering 2-3 times a day will yield the best success. Early in the morning and later in the evening is will give you great results. After 2-3 weeks watering can be reduced to once a day until the turf is completely established.
